Seed cycling was one of the first measures I tried to help balance my hormones naturally and manage fibroid symptoms. But, honestly, it seemed like such a simple concept that I didn’t really think it would produce any results. Thus, a new plan was hatched: seed cycling for fibroids.

Despite a large amount of anecdotal evidence of the power of this practice, I was still skeptical. However, after taking seeds for a few months, I’m happy to report my success story.

Fibroid Management Guide

Learn how I completely stopped fibroid symptoms, started having lighter periods and even shrank a large fibroid to half its size.

Earlier in my journey, Pinterest was one of my favorite research tools. So, I found a few pins about cycle syncing and incorporating seeds into a hormone-balancing diet.

What did I have to lose at that point? At worse, I’d just be giving myself some additional nutrients.

What is Seed Cycling?

Seed cycling is the practice of consuming four different seeds in sync with a particular phase of your menstrual cycle.

For example, you take one tablespoon of flax seeds (or chia seeds) and one tablespoon of pumpkin seeds daily from days 1-14. Then you consume one tablespoon of sesame seeds and one tablespoon of sunflower seeds daily from days 15-28.

Not quite sure what day you’re on in your cycle?

Does Seed Cycling Work?

It sounds so simple, yet in my experience, it has been very effective. Within the first couple of weeks, I experienced less bloating, fewer mood swings, and seemed to have more energy.

I’m sure every woman’s experience will be different or may take more cycles. Most of the articles I read stated that it usually takes at least three cycles to see results.

What Type of Seeds to Buy

The first time I purchased seeds for seed cycling, I headed to Trader Joe’s and Sprouts and picked up the first seeds I found.

They worked out fine, but I recommend that you always buy organic seeds if you can. Seeds are really absorbent, so they can hold large amounts of pesticides.

Another option is to buy sprouted seeds. Sprouted seeds are easier for many people to digest therefore allowing your body to absorb more of the nutrients from the seeds. Sprouted seeds may be a good option if you generally are prone to digestive issues.

Why Seed Cycling for Hormones Works for Some Women

The seeds used encourage the production and metabolism of estrogen and progesterone. They are full of nutrients that are vital to hormonal balance, including zinc, magnesium, selenium, and vitamin E.

Women experiencing hormone-related issues are often deficient in nutrients needed for proper hormone balance.

Do Flax Seeds Make Fibroids Grow?

I should point out that flax seeds do contain lignans. Lignans are phytoestrogens. There has been some controversy about phytoestrogens and whether estrogen-dominant people should consume them.

Estrogen dominance is thought to be one of the contributors to fibroids. Most of the more recent research that I found pointed out that lignans actually bind to excess estrogens and help the body eliminate them.

At one point, I decided to remove them from my seed cycling for fibroids routine until I was able to get a clearer picture of the effect of lignans on the body. However, after doing my research, I decided it was appropriate to add them back into my practice.

If you suspect a sensitivity to seeds and/or nuts, you should consult your healthcare practitioner to determine if consuming seeds of any kind is right for you.

Consuming Seeds

It’s recommended that you grind sesame seeds and flax seeds for easier digestion, but I make it a habit to grind them all.

You can use a pestle and mortar, but I find that flax gets a better grinding in the food processor. The seeds are tiny and tend to slide around whenever I use the pestle and mortar. Grinding them isn’t necessary if they are sprouted.

This is another already combined, easy-to-incorporate alternative.

How to Incorporate Seeds Into Your Diet

Seeds are easy to add to your diet. Add them to smoothies, salads, and even avocado toast. There are tons of seed-based and seed cycling recipes on Pinterest.

Seed cycling can be a helpful practice for balancing your hormones and reducing fibroid symptoms. However, it is not a quick fix. Instead, it should be incorporated as a part of a holistic lifestyle.

Personally, the practice has become key in helping me reduce fibroid symptoms and regulate my hormones.
