Sometimes when you’ve had the opportunity to evolve past a situation, it’s easier to look back and express what you were feeling when you were in it. Since I’ve been able to get my fibroid symptoms under control and find relief I’ve done so much reflection on my past experience, and I am truly thankful that I have come a such long way.
Until about 3 years ago, I wasn’t really aware of the four different cycle phases and how they may have impacted me. I could name them if someone asked, but I didn’t really understand them or their relation to how my body was supposed to work. Now that I am aware, I realize that Luteal Phase usually came in at a close second when it came to the worst of my fibroid symptoms.
Many women do experience some bloating right before their menstrual cycle, and perhaps even a change in mood. In my experience, this is more intense with fibroids. Actually, sometimes my cycle only felt like two phases – a never-ending luteal phase and then a traumatic menstrual phase.
Fibroids and Luteal Phase
The high of the follicular and ovulation phases can seem pretty elusive when you’re battling constant bloating, mood swings, and anemia, to name just a few symptoms. Then things just seem to climax into severe cramps and life-altering heavy bleeding. That’s how I would describe my cycles before I altered my diet and began cycle syncing.
Living like this can be pretty miserable and all-consuming. I spent a lot of time trying to cover up how exhausted and unhappy I was. When I wasn’t doing that, I was worried about bleeding all over the place. I was a mess.
I initially wrote this post as a moment of reflection, but I also realize that it’s possibly a beacon of hope. It’s important to know the stories of other people who experienced what you’re experiencing and how they overcame their obstacles.
